Movie Review - The Skeleton Key
"From the writer of The Ring (Ehren Kruger) and the director of K-Pax (Ian Softley) comes Universal Pictures' contemporary supernatural thriller, The Skeleton Key. Set largely in the dark atmospheric backwoods just outside of New Orleans, The Skeleton key stars Hudson as Carolinem a live-in nurse hired to care for an elderly woman's (Rowlands) ailing husband (Hurt) in their home.. a foreboding and decrepit mansion in the Louisiana delta. Intrigued by the enigmatic couplem their mysterious and secretive ways and their rambling house, Caronline begins to explore the old mansion. Armed with a skeleton key that unlocks every door, she discovers a hidden attic room that holds a deadly and terrifying secret. Peter Sarsgaard potrays Luke, the local attorney working on the couple's estate, and Joy Bryant plays a Jill, Caroline's best friend."
Besides Kate Hudson bath scene, which I'm surprised it wasn't cut, she in hot tight pants while she was sleeping, I can't really remember what else is worth the watch. May be the CGI swamp around the house, which looks quite real. I got mislead by the title "The Skeleton Key". Thought the 'mysterious' key would lead to something scary or itself is scary but if you were planning to pay some money to get yourself scared, like I was planning, please go for other movie. May be Lord of the ring's slaughtering scene would do more scary effect than this one.
I dunno about others but if I'm watching ghost/scary movie, I'll atleast expect something scary to appear/happen but the movie keep on dragging and at the end, nothing scary really happened. However I did get something from the movie, that is, the difference between Voodoo and Hoodoo, the definition of both, and looks like Voodoo is much more powerful, do check out 'Chukie'. Damn... am I watching an education movie or what?
Rating.... 3/10 (1 for Kate, 1 for the CGI, 1 for the Voodoo/Hoodoo info)
